Hex File Inspector & Byte Viewer
Inspect raw file bytes, jump to offsets, search exact hex or UTF-8 sequences and interpret a selected range as text or numbers. Everything is read-only and processed locally.
Open a file
No file loaded.
The file is never executed or modified. A recognized header is only a hint, not proof that a file is valid or safe.
Or paste data
Up to 65,536 pasted bytes. Hex accepts byte pairs, spaces and optional 0x prefixes. Unicode text is encoded as UTF-8.
Open a file or try the example.
Small signature set: PNG and Unicode byte-order marks. Entropy describes byte distribution; it is not a security or file-type verdict.

Find a byte sequence
Search for 1–256 bytes. Overlapping matches are included. Results cap at the first 1,000 matches.
Selected range
Select bytes to inspect.
Numeric interpretation
Numbers read from the start of your selected range. A value needs its full byte width. 64-bit integers are exact strings; floats can be NaN or infinite.
Decode selected text
No selection decoded.
File bytes, names and search terms stay in page memory. No upload or stored file history is used. This viewer does not decrypt, repair, edit or scan files for malware. Website ads and analytics follow our privacy information.
Using Hex File Inspector & Byte Viewer
Read raw bytes without opening or modifying the file’s format. Navigate offsets, search a sequence and inspect/export exactly the range you select.
- Open a file up to 8 MiB, try the byte example or import pasted hex/UTF-8 text. Review byte statistics and limited header hints.
- Jump by decimal or 0x hexadecimal offset, choose row width and select a byte range. Inspect signed/unsigned integers and floats with the chosen endian order.
- Search exact hex or UTF-8 bytes, navigate matches, decode selected text or export raw bytes, a visible hex dump and an inspection JSON report.
Example
Try byte example and search UTF-8 text Hello bytes! to navigate two occurrences. Select hex bytes 01 00 00 00. Little-endian uint32 is 1; big-endian is 16777216.
Questions & answers
Are my files uploaded or executed?
No. Bytes and searches are processed locally in a worker; files are not executed or modified and no file history is stored. Website ads and analytics follow the privacy information.
Can this repair, decrypt or detect malware?
No. It is a read-only byte viewer. Header hints, entropy and valid UTF-8 are informational observations, not integrity checks, format validation or security verdicts.
What header hints are included?
The eight-byte PNG signature and UTF-8/UTF-16 byte-order marks at the file start. Unknown means no match in this deliberately small signature set, not an invalid file.
What does byte entropy mean?
Shannon entropy of the observed byte-frequency distribution,0–8 bits per byte. Many different file types can have similar distributions. The report includes all256 byte counts.
How does search work?
Exact bytes with overlapping matches, using a linear prefix-table search in a cancellable worker. Hex or UTF-8 queries are1–256 bytes; the list stops after detecting more than 1,000 matches and reports truncation.
What do the number fields mean?
Values read from the selected range’s first byte using the chosen little/big endian order. Each value needs its full byte width. Exact64-bit integers and float special values are exported as strings. No format schema is assumed.
Why does selected text decoding fail?
The selected boundaries may cut through a multibyte character, or the bytes may use another encoding or be binary. Strict decoding rejects invalid sequences. Explicit replacement mode allows substituted characters; it changes the decoded text representation only.
Does the ASCII column show Unicode?
No. It displays byte values32–126 as printable ASCII and dots for other bytes. Use selected text decoding for UTF-8, UTF-16LE/BE or Windows-1252. Decoded content is displayed literally, never as HTML.
What export and size limits apply?
Files up to 8 MiB, pasted data and selected ranges up to 65,536 bytes. The visible dump covers at most512 bytes; search lists at most1,000 offsets. Text preview shows2,000 characters but text copy/download includes the full decoded selection. Raw .bin exports preserve selected bytes exactly.
