Matching names is case-insensitive and exact, not a wildcard. Paths are case-sensitive JSON Pointers. Selected objects are replaced as a whole. This is selective editing, not automatic secret detection.

Using JSON Redactor

Prepare a JSON example for sharing. Mask selected field names or exact paths while preserving large numbers, duplicate keys and array positions.

  1. Start with the working example to explore the workflow, or add your own inputs.
  2. Choose the options, build a preview and review the result table and notes.
  3. Copy or download the output. When inputs change, build a fresh preview before exporting.

Example

Matching names is case-insensitive and exact, not a wildcard. Paths are case-sensitive JSON Pointers. Selected objects are replaced as a whole. This is selective editing, not automatic secret detection.

Questions & answers

Will this find every secret?

No. Only your selected property names and exact paths are matched. Read the entire output before sharing it.

Are large JSON numbers rounded?

No. The existing exact JSON parser preserves original number spelling instead of converting it to JavaScript numbers.

How do JSON Pointer paths work?

Use /customers/0/email for an array member. Escape a slash in a key as ~1 and a tilde as ~0. Paths are case-sensitive; the root itself cannot be selected.

What happens when I remove array items?

They become null so later array indexes stay in place. Matched object properties are removed.

Are duplicate keys preserved?

Yes, and a count is shown. Every matching occurrence is redacted; the tool does not silently resolve duplicate properties.

Does the report contain original values?

No. It contains matched paths, original types and the action. Paths can themselves reveal information, so review reports too.

Is my input uploaded for processing?

Processing runs in a local browser worker with no input upload and no account. Website advertising and analytics are described in the privacy information.
